Millions of children are affected by ADHD, which often progresses into adulthood. Difficulty sustaining attention, hyperactivity, and impulsive behavior characterize ADHD. Low self-esteem, relationship struggles, and difficulty at school can be a struggle for children with ADHD.
Hyperactive-impulsive behavior and inattention are the main features of ADHD. Symptoms are present before 12 years of age, but can be observed as early as 3 years of age. Boys are diagnosed more that girls, and their behaviors differ. Boys might be more aggressive, impulsive and hyperactive than girls.
Training, counseling, education, and medication are conventional treatments for ADHD. These treatments can successfully address the symptoms, but they are not a cure.
Counseling and behavior therapy often prove to be helpful for children with ADHD. Sometimes, other conditions, such as anxiety and depression. accompany ADHD. When this occurs, psychotherapy can address the co-occurrence of the other conditions and the ADHD.
Social skills training, counseling, parenting skills training , psychotherapy, and behavior therapy can all be utilized for ADHD treatment.
